How to Maintain Pregnancy After Successful Embryo Transfer in Thailand?

After embryo transfer, the embryo implants in the uterus and establishes a blood circulation with the mother’s body, similar to how a small tree takes root. Due to the potential impact of previous IVF treatments on luteal function, it is necessary to increase progesterone and estrogen after the transfer to facilitate smooth implantation of the embryo. Common medications include progesterone injections and dydrogesterone tablets.

Within 2 hours after the embryo transfer procedure, the doctor will arrange appropriate medications for maintaining pregnancy. It is essential to take these medications on time and consistently, avoiding abrupt cessation to prevent bleeding or other complications.

Fourteen days after the transfer, you will need to visit the hospital for serum HCG testing. If the HCG level is greater than 50 mIU/ml, it indicates successful pregnancy. At this point, you should continue pregnancy maintenance treatment for an additional 14-21 days and undergo an ultrasound to confirm the presence of an intrauterine gestational sac, embryo, and fetal heartbeat. Pregnancy maintenance treatment usually needs to continue until 55 days after the transfer, gradually reducing the dosage once the condition stabilizes.

If pregnancy is confirmed, after two and a half months post-transfer, or three months into the pregnancy, you can visit obstetrics and officially join the ranks of expectant mothers. Subsequent check-ups will be conducted in obstetrics.

In terms of lifestyle, you also need to pay extra attention. Your diet can be similar to your usual habits. If you enjoy spicy food, you can continue to consume it in moderation. It is recommended to eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich foods such as milk, eggs, and lean meat. No scientific studies indicate that specific foods increase the chances of pregnancy or cause miscarriage, so there is no need to overly worry about dietary restrictions.

In terms of lifestyle, you can continue normal work and household chores as long as you do not overexert yourself. It is best to avoid sexual intercourse and vigorous exercise during the first three months of pregnancy. Maintaining a good mindset during pregnancy maintenance is particularly important. Excessive anxiety is unhelpful and may lead to endocrine disorders, so it is key to keep a calm mood.

You may experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding after the transfer. As long as the amount of bleeding does not exceed your usual menstrual flow and ectopic pregnancy is ruled out, you can continue pregnancy maintenance treatment. Vaginal bleeding may sometimes present as light pink or brown discharge during the 3-7 days post-procedure, but there is no need to panic. Continue pregnancy maintenance treatment under the guidance of your doctor, and in most cases, everything will proceed smoothly.
