Mexico Surrogacy: How to Plan with Low Ovarian Reserve

Many people considering surrogacy have not completely lost their fertility. Instead, during the planning process, they may discover that factors such as age, ovarian function, egg quantity, or previous treatment history are affecting their options. Especially after learning that their ovarian reserve is declining, one of the most common questions is: If I do not plan to carry the pregnancy myself, do I still need to start planning Mexico surrogacy early?

What Does Low Ovarian Reserve Mean?

Ovarian reserve mainly reflects the number of remaining oocytes in the ovaries. Clinically, it is usually assessed using indicators such as AMH, basal FSH, and antral follicle count (AFC). However, these tests mainly reflect egg quantity and the potential response to ovarian stimulation. They cannot independently determine egg quality, nor can they be directly equated with “being unable to become pregnant.” Therefore, when AMH is low, there is no need to determine reproductive outcomes based on a single number. Age, medical history, and examination results should be considered together.

Why Does Ovarian Reserve Still Matter When Using Surrogacy?

Surrogacy addresses the pregnancy stage, but this does not mean ovarian function is no longer relevant to the overall fertility plan.

If you plan to use your own eggs to create embryos, egg retrieval remains an important starting point in the process. When ovarian reserve declines, the number of eggs obtained after ovarian stimulation may decrease, and the stimulation plan may need to be adjusted based on the individual response. At the same time, age affects not only egg quantity but also egg quality and the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in embryos.

With Low Ovarian Reserve, Do You Have to Start Mexico Surrogacy Immediately?

If you currently have no reproductive needs and no specific embryo plan, deciding to begin treatment immediately based solely on low AMH is not necessarily a scientific approach. Ovarian reserve test results need to be interpreted within the complete clinical context, and low ovarian reserve does not necessarily mean that natural conception or assisted reproduction is impossible.

However, if you have already decided to have a child using your own eggs and also have factors such as increasing age, declining AMH, previous ovarian surgery, chemotherapy, or other factors that may affect ovarian function, an earlier fertility assessment can help you better understand your actual situation and leave more time for planning Mexico surrogacy.

What Else Should Be Considered from Egg Retrieval to Embryo Development?

When ovarian reserve is low, it is important not to focus only on how many eggs can be retrieved in a single cycle. Fertility planning also involves the number of mature eggs, fertilization, embryo development, and the final number of embryos available for use.

IVF-PGT can also be used for relevant genetic testing at the blastocyst stage, providing more information for subsequent embryo selection and transfer planning. What truly needs to be planned is whether your own eggs are still suitable for use, when to undergo egg retrieval, how much time needs to be prepared, and how the resulting embryos will be arranged.
